Setting Your Wedding Budget

New Hampshire Wedding Articles » Wedding Planning

Are you planning a wedding? Then you'll know just how important it is to set your wedding budget. Every bride and groom has a wedding budget. Some brides and grooms have a more generous budget -- but setting a wedding budget is a very important step to take. Your wedding is a very important day in your life and without a budget brides and grooms can be tempted to simply spend, spend, spend!

The key to setting a good budget is communication. Experts say that money is actually more of a "hot" topic than sex is for couples. Many brides and grooms are getting a taste of what it is like to deal with money as a couple when they start to plan their wedding. They start to learn how the other handles money in a very personal way. You also learn a lot about the other's family relationships and their relationships with money. So communicating together as a couple will help you set an appropriate budget. Come to an even ground that the two of you are happy with. Learn to accept some compromise, just as you will need to compromise on other things you do as a couple. You may not stick to your budget so strictly -- but if you go over your budget by ten percent you will still be in very good shape.

When setting your budget consider who will pay for what parts of the wedding. In old fashioned traditions, the bride's family paid for the entire wedding. In today's time, brides and grooms often pitch in to help pay for the wedding together. Sometimes the family helps the couple pay for the wedding. Every circumstance is different. Arranging who will pay for what parts of the wedding is very important. Perhaps the groom will pay for part of the reception or the transportation. The bride and her family could pay for the wedding ceremony and the caterer. Come to a decision that makes everyone happy.

Accept that in setting your budget that people have different relationships with money. That your future spouse may have a different relationship with money than you do. It is important that you work together to create a successful relationship. Working together is the most important thing. If you find setting the budget very stressful, think about seeing a financial planner for an introductory session to go over your finances. This can be very helpful to help you understand more about your finances and your life as a couple. Your wedding budget is just one part of the puzzle. You deserve to have a beautiful wedding that you will always remember.
